A piece of flattened steel in the shape of two triangles joined at their points. There on the floor beside him was the only thing in the box that wasn’t a tool or mechanical piece. Various metal objects scattered across the room, rolling under the table and bouncing against the corner where the walls met. In his frustration, he dumped the box over, on the floor. He dug around for anything else to attach to the string of beads but he couldn’t find anything particularly pretty in his box of spare parts. But the string of beads alone didn’t look enough like a braid for Anakin. The jedi weren’t encouraged to wear anything flashy. He spent a good couple of hours taking the chain apart link by link and threading the bearing until the ‘braid’ looked long enough to be passable. He found a bag of steel threaded ball bearings with a Damascus finishing that he’d been in a trade with a droid shop owner. Surely more metal wouldn’t look out of place on it. He found himself rummaging around in the boxes of droid parts and machinery in his room looking for anything that might pass as beads.Īhsoka already wore a headpiece made of pewter and acul teeth. Apparently not presenting your padawan with a braid was on par with rejecting them to their face, which he had already done, so he really couldn’t afford this kind of slip up with Ahsoka. At least not when it came to his personal relationships. Things just never could work in Anakin’s favor. He received a call from the admiral an hour later saying they were being redirected to Corellia for refueling and then being redeployed on an emergency mission. Don’t worry, once you land I’ll join you in the market and we’ll put one together for her.” “You make one! Usually out of beads and chain. “You really don’t know? Anakin, you're supposed to present her with her braid before you two form a training bond. Obi-wan's projection stared at him open-mouthed for a moment. “Her what? Are you talking about Ahsoka? She doesn’t have any hair.” “Her braid Anakin honestly, it’s a wonder the poor girl isn’t feeling rejected over it.” She’s only going to get more anxious the longer you wait.” Is that supposed to be code for something?” “That’s the third time you’ve brought up heading to the market. “So Anakin, I have a few things to pick up in the market, can I join you for your trip,” Obi-wan asked internationally.Īnakin raised a brow at him. Obi-wan called him that evening for his regular updates/gossip. As if he was going to abandon her the moment they reached the shore. If anything she was looking twitchier the closer they were getting to Coruscant. To call her his padawan and challenge her with lessons. He’d gone out of his way to engage with Ahsoka. Masters were supposed to choose and welcome their young students.Īnd Anakin had been trying to make up for that mistake. It was a pretty insulting experience for a padawan to be rejected the way Anakin did Ahsoka. Something he would have written off as her stubborn personality if he hadn’t recognized it so well. She was eager to please and strong-willed which led to an odd mix of her telling Anakin exactly where he could shove his opinion and her consistently exceeding his expectations. He actually enjoyed having Ahsoka around. He played it off as a sagely mentor sort of deal but really he was just covering all of his bases.īut there were some things that Obi-wan missed simply because they were things that he’d never considered someone not knowing because he’d grown up with the knowledge. Obi-wan usually went out of his way to explain things to Anakin whether he might already know it or not. As someone being taught old lessons long after the kids his age had fully accepted them. Centuries of different species and cultures added a little bit of their lore, their habits, and insights to the jedi philosophy until they were deeply ingrained.Īnakin remembers learning about some of the Jedi traditions as an outsider. Want to know where you can find this in the movie? HIGHLIGHT to read: It happens at the scene where Qui-Gon has just gotten back to the ship with supplies. The Jedi have a lot of somewhat strict traditions. You can see that his braid is on his left instead of his right with this picture I've attached. While watching the movie a second time, I felt as if Obi-Wan's apprentice's braid switched sides during the movie. QWERTY sends us this little tidbit, about the much noticed braid-switch in TPM.
